![]() ![]() The Cold War concept of the Red Scare led to such "who is your neighbor, really?" films as The INvasion of the Body Snatchers and the knock-off It Conquered the World, and The Thing. The hivemind and mindcontrol concepts follow several "paranoia infestation" films of the 1950s/1960s. The lifecycle of the Many, especially the original infestation on Tau Ceti V, relates back to the original Alien film, in which the first crewman to explore is the first to be contaminated. Yet the Many are a more "warm" creation, calling to the "flesh" with promises of warmth, peace, and unity - as opposed to the more directly predatory "you shall be absorbed" attitudes of the Borg. However, the Many do share the hive-mind concept of the Borg, as well as some of the "you will join us" chanting. ![]() However, the Borg are more similar to the System Shock 1 cyborgs (made from Citadel crew, turned to the will of SHODAN). The obvious possible scifi literary predecessor to the Link is the Borg from Star Trek. ![]()
